Legoland California will embark later this year on its costliest expansion ever, with the planned construction of a long promised Lego-themed hotel on the park grounds.
Park officials would not reveal how much its owner, London-based Merlin Entertainment Group, is investing in the new 250-room hotel, although the project could cost $50 million or more, assuming a cost of roughly $200,000 a room. The last major investment by the park was just a few years ago, when it spent $20 million on the Sea Life aquarium and an Indiana Jones-like adventure in 1920s Egypt.
